The Island of Margarita, situated 25 miles off the northern coast of Venezuela, forms together with the much smaller Islands of Coche and Cubagua the Federal State of Nueva Esparta. Margarita at itīs widest measures from north to south 20 miles, from east to west 42 miles. More than 150 beaches and very little rain which guarantees almost 365 days of sunshine plus the oceanic climate with an average temperature of 82 degrees Fahrenheit make it a paradise for your vacation at the beach.

Arrival and Departure: There are many Charter Flights directly to Porlamar from USA, Canada, Great Britain, Germany, Netherlands, also with connecting flights from other countries: Sky Service from Toronto, Rayan International from Montreal Air Transat from Toronto. Condor from Frankfurt/Main with connecting flights from Swizerland, Austria and Italy. Martinair from Amsterdam and Kopenhagen. Air 2000 from Manchester. Avensa from Madrid.

You also have the possibility to travel to Margarita through Caracas. American, Delta, United Airlines and Aeropostal fly from Miami for about 300 $ return. KLM, Lufthansa, Air France, Iberia, TAP, Alitalia, British Airways and Avianca fly to Caracas from Europe for about 500 Euro return. The connecting flight Caracas - Porlamar is about 100 Euro return but often not bookable in Europe or Northamerica for the same day. To make things easy we can arrange the ticket Caracas- Porlamar and also our incoming agent can pick you up at the international airport in Caracas and check you in for the flight to Porlamar.

Arrival and Departure:

Your passport still needs to be valid for 6 more months. If you are travelling with children, please bring an identification card with the child´s photograph. Upon arrival you will fill in a tourist card which serves as your tourist visa, do not lose the copy of it as you will have to hand it to the customs officer upon departure. You might have to pay an exit tax of approx. US$ 22.— if your airline hasn´t included this fee when you purchased your ticket.

Transfer

El Yaque is about a 10 minutes´ taxiride from the airport. Be prepared to pay about US$ 5.- one way. On request we can arrange the airport transfer for you. Costs: US$ 10,- por person both ways.

Money:

The Venezuelan currency is the Bolivar. Our tip: It is best to bring US$ in traveller checks or cash. Creditcards are widely accepted but be careful! With the current foreign exchange laws you pay about 40 % more if you use it!!. At the moment you will get approx. 2400 Bolivares for 1 US$, but only 2700 for 1 Euro.

Venezuela is in winter 5 hours, in summer 6 hours ahead of middle European time. It is one hour behind Miami-time in winter but same time in summer.

Voltage:

110 Volt

Not required or necessary for the island of Margarita or for guided short trips to the mainland Venezuela.

Health:

Althought it is absolutely save to shower and brush your teeth with tap-water we recommend to only drink botteled water(bars and restaurants use filtered water for the drinks). There are good doctors and clinics on the Island. Should you regularly have to take a special medication, please bring sufficient supply with you as medicines sometimes are sold under different names.
